un-FUCKING-forgivable

Mon Oct 12, 2009, 1:50 PM
The most unforgivable thing an arist can do is destroy another artist's work.

I just watched a man paint over my painting.

I may be young, and I may have a lot to learn, but I am not this man's student, he is not my teacher, and no one in their right mind would do this to a peer.

I feel sick.

for an explaination:
i'm painting a mural at the "hookah shisha lounge" in Kaiserslautern. I always went in there and admired the paintings on the inside, because they're good. not my style, but good. The owner asked me to paint the outside walls, and I did. Last week the artist Alexandro came back to visit, and we agreed he'd help me out ("I give you some tips, and you do the painting.") He started off right away trying to give me a basic instruction on how to paint. (Ashley's thoughts: "I already know how to paint. hence the fact that there's a gigantic painting on the wall. I don't need a lesson on how to make green from blue and yellow."). I let him know that I've had classes, I've had lessons, and I have a style.
He picked up the paintbrush, and started making strokes all over the wall. I didn't even know what to do. He and I were the only ones present who spoke english, and I was in complete and utter shock. How could anyone just do that with absolutely no thought and no permission? how could an expressionist painter think that painting over the top of another artist's painting would be even a vaguely good idea, especially considering the difference in styles?

I'm going to be sick.
That is the most disrespectful thing i've ever seen.
My throat closed up, and I had to leave. There was no undoing the damage he just did, and I had no way of expressing myself without screaming (I can't do that. I especially didn't want him to see me burst into tears.)
I tried to grab my stuff and get to my car before the tidal wave, but the fucker chased me down and beat me to my car, realizing what an idiotic thing he just did.
the lesson obviously didn't sink in, considering he spent the next three hours trying to give me a drawing lesson. I have the evidence in my sketchbook forever that I can draw better than he can.

FUCK.

here's a picture of the painting pre-vandalism. Maybe not as good as he can do, but it's still my work. my painting.
